The Countdown Begins...

The hands of the clock are finally reaching the last revolution for this year 2010. Few hours left and then the year 2011 will be the next spot for celebration. Make a decision to start your first day in 2011 with smile and receive the positive vibes. Many people will gain happiness and memorable moments in the split of the 2010-2011. Yes, and it’s a good way to end a year and a great way to start the New One.

“For last year's words belong to last year's language and next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.” - T. S. Eliot

Strength Training Cuts Risk of Cancer Death by 40%...

Although overall cancer death rates have dropped nearly 20% over the past 15-20 years, deaths from specific types of cancer that are associated with obesity continue to rise. It turns out Resistance Exercise may further reduce overall cancer deaths despite elevated Body Mass Index (BMI), and hence impact the rate of cancer-related deaths regardless of obesity.

Researchers at the Cooper Institute tracked 8,677 men between the ages of 20 and 82 over a 23-year period beginning in 1980. The data was obtained as part of the Aerobics Centre Longitudinal Study. Information on the participants muscle strength and adiposity were correlated with the incidence of cancer death over the study period. Strength was assessed using the 1-repetition maximum for both the bench press and leg press exercises. Body mass index along with body fat percentage and waist circumference was used to determine adiposity.

Over the study period, men with the greatest strength associated with regular resistance exercise were 30-40% less likely to die from a cancerous tumor. This benefit remained after accounting for adiposity.

Previous research has identified connections between aerobic exercise and weight loss on the incidence of cancer deaths. The researchers suggest that men regularly participate in Resistance Exercise at least twice weekly to achieve the benefits uncovered in this study.

It’s CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN…

From now until December 25 we’re preparing our hearts for the arrival of the Savior of the World. If there’s one word that reverberates throughout the Christmas story, it’s this:

Here’s a simple little truth that always blows my mind no matter how often I read it:
God is love. (1 John 4:16)

The very essence of God’s character is love. He loves each and every one of us more than we can possibly imagine. How does he show that love? This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
(1 John 4:9)

What should our response be? The Bible answers that question, too:
Dear friends, let us love one another for love comes from God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:7-8)

What exactly is love? It’s not a feeling. It’s not a sentiment. It wasn’t invented by Hollywood, etc. God’s definition is: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

One final question: Can anything ever separate us from God’s love? The answer . . .
Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

ASK FOR LOVE THIS CHRISTMAS...

You are special, you are unique; may your Christmas be also as special and unique as you are! May this Christmas be Heart touching and you are surrounded by loved ones throughout! GOD BLESS!

MERRY CHRISTMAS dear Friends!

Love believes the best and hopes for the best...

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

In the deep and private corridors of your Heart, there is a room, a room called Appreciation. It`s a room where your thoughts go when you encounter positive and encouraging things about that Special Precious Person in your life. Every so often, you enjoy visiting this special place in your Heart.
On the walls of this room are written kind words and phrases discribing the good attributes of the special one next to you. These may include characteristics like "Honest", "Integrity", “Emotional,” “Passionate,” “Special” or phrases like “Romantic Handsome One,” "Diligent Worker," "Wonderful Helper," "Beautiful Smile," "Warm Eyes," Gentle Touch," “Precious B, H, L,“ “Trust Worthy Heart,” etc. They`re things you`ve discovered about your Precious One next to your Heart that have embedded themselves in your memory. When you think about these things, your appreciation for that person begins to increase even when things are difficulte, communication somehow have become very hard and seems lost. In fact, the more time we spend meditating on these positive moments/attributes, the more greatful we are toward that special One`s Heart.

I know most of these things in the Appreciation Room were likely written in the initial stages of your relationship. Pictures were taken and have been place through out the walls of each other`s homes and care for one another was in the air around you 24/7. You could summarize them as things you liked and respected about your Loved One. They were True, Honorable and Good and we spent a great deal of time dwelling on them in this room... before we lost the conection with the other Heart. As life keep putting its own expectations on everyone of us we may have found that there are many times this special Room in our Hearts have not been visited as offten as we once did. Of course, that`s because there is another Room next door.

Down another darker corridor of our Hearts lies the Depreciation Room, and unfortunately we visit there as well. On its walls are written things that bother, irritate you about that Special One. Of course, they all were placed there out of frustration, hurt feelings, and disappointments of unmet desires. Desires of your Heart that some how have turned into Expectations! This Room is lined with the weaknesses and failures of your Loved One. Their hurtful words, bad habits, actions of panishment, poor decisions, and self centered comunication are written in large letters that cover the walls from one end to the other. Spending time in that Room devalues your Hearts toward that Special Precious One and leads to emotional injuries, Heart injuries that leads to fall out of LOVE.

Yes, we may say, "The things in the "D" Room are true!" Yes, but so are the things in the "A" Room. Everyone fails and has areas that need personal growth and clean up to do in their personal closet. I know that because I`m experiencing everything right now and I have failed as well! Everyone has personal baggage, hurts and unresolved issues. I`m one of them! That is the sad aspect of being Human. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

We do have this unfortunate tendency to downplay our own negative attributes while putting our precious partner`s failures under a magnifying glass. Matthew 7:3-4
And yes, I have done it as well and yes I`m the biggest siner of all, and yes we need to take responsibilities toward our own actions and the ways we do things and think how all that is going to impact that Special Precious One that is part of your life.

After all I have said in writing so far the real issue here is not the "D" Room we do visit. LOVE knows about the "D" Room and does not live in it. Keep running to the "D" Room after every frustrating event in your precious relationship it does you no good and surely will drain the joy out of your Heart and we forget the "A" Room. LOVE choose to believe the best and hope for the best about that Precious One that is in your life says God in 1Corin. 13:7 and gives the benefit of the doubt. Love will refuse to fill in the unknowns with all the writing in "D" Room. LOVE makes every effort to deal with them and LOVE does not delight in evil but rejoices with the TRUTH. 1Corin. 13:6 LOVE always have to lead our focus and thoughts when comes to how to be there for that Special Precious Person that is part of your Heart when he/she glance in the door of the "D" Room. True LOVE is always willing to help when we should ever go in this "D" Room to write in huge letters across the walls "It`s COVERED IN LOVE."

As we are willing through LOVE to move toward the "A" Room we choose to learn that many more wonderful character qualities could be written across these walls about that Precious One that your Heavenly Father have placed into your life for a Reason, Season and/or not for a Lifetime! So many dreams and hopes have yet to be realized and abilities to be discovered like hidden treasures. Of course, it is a CHOICE that starts with a DECISION by you. It is a DECISION that you make, whether they deserve it or not. A Decision to recognize that your Special One is part to your future success is very important for the LOVE that you share. Let them know today that you desire to include them in your upcoming decisions, and that you need their perspective and counsel. If you have ignored their input in the past, admit your oversight and ask them to forgive you. When you ask, do ask with sincere and honest Heart and do make a decision that day to change something in your ways of doing things as well.

Someone has said the following:

"NO ONE falls in love by choice; it is by CHANCE. No one stays in love by chance; it is by WORK and DECISIONS... And no one falls out of love by chance; it is by CHOICE!"

Yes, God is our hope and strength in times like that, a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 46:1

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take Heart ! I have overcome the world !" John 16:33

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28 ; Psalm 50:15

Sit Up Straight...

Slouching isn't good and sexy – and it causes back pain!
"People with good posture are often seen as younger, more confident, and happier than those who slouch, round their shoulders, or tilt to one side," says Paul D'Arezzo, MD, a certified emergency physician in Colorado Springs. You'll feel better, too: Proper posture prevents muscle and joint pain and can help sidestep tension headaches by reducing strain on the neck. To perk up your stance, start a regular yoga or Pilates routine.

The exercises will strengthen the muscles in your abdomen, pelvis, and lower back that help hold your body upright. Also, stretch every hour or so when you're seated for long periods of time. Try this anti-aging beauty tip: Keep both feet flat on the floor with your shoulders and chin relaxed, hands on your thighs. Slowly draw your shoulders back and squeeze your shoulder blades together for a count of 5, then relax. Repeat three or four times.

Your Heavenly Father Knows You…

You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. Psalm 139:2-4

7 things that could leave you extra vulnerable to colds and flu...

1. You have a sweet tooth. Eating too much sugar doesn't just pack on pounds… A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that eating 100 g of sugar (think three cans of soda) significantly hampered the ability of white blood cells to kill bacteria for up to 5 hours afterward.

2. You don't drink enough water. There's a reason moms and doctors always push fluids on you when you're sick. Your body needs plenty of water to flush out toxins—and yes, coffee and tea are acceptable sources. How much fluid you should drink daily varies from person to person. You're drinking the right amount if your urine is pale yellow.

3. You've got a lot of weight to lose. You know excess weight is unhealthy for your heart, brain and other organs. But it's also bad for your immune system. In fact, those who become most seriously ill with swine flu tend to share the same characteristic: a body mass index over 40, meaning they are morbidly obese. Excess weight can cause hormonal imbalances and inflammation that impairs the immune system's ability to fight infection.

4. You drink water from a well. Surprisingly, the cleanliness of your drinking water can play a role in whether or not you get sick. As many as 25 million Americans drink well water that contains more than the safe levels of arsenic determined by the EPA. Arsenic has been linked to several different cancers, and affects the immune response to swine flu as well. When researchers from Dartmouth Medical School inoculated two groups of mice with the H1N1 virus, the group that had spent 5 weeks drinking arsenic-tainted water developed suppressed immune systems, and many died. The mice that didn't drink the water got the flu but recovered completely. If your well water tests high, consider switching to bottled water or investing in a remediation system that will remove the arsenic. Drinking hot herbal tea regularly is a great prevention tool as well!

5. Your nose is Sahara desert-dry. As uncomfortable as it may be, a runny nose is actually a good defense against colds and the flu. Sounds gross, but mucus traps viruses and clears them from the body. If your nasal passages are too dry, germ invaders have an easier time. If the dryness is a temporary problem, irrigate your nasal passages with a squeeze bottle or neti pot of saline solution. A humidifier can also help. If dryness is chronic, see your doctor to determine the underlying cause.

6. You're always seriously stressed out. It's no coincidence that you tend to catch a cold after a big work deadline. According to a report by the American Psychological Association, long-term stress weakens the responses of your immune system. In addition, "if you become stressed while you have the flu, your symptoms can get worse," says Philip Tierno, PhD, director of clinical microbiology and immunology at New York University and author of The Secret Life of Germs: What They Are, Why We Need Them, and How We Can Protect Ourselves Against Them.

7. You're always nursing a cold. This means your immune system isn't operating at top speed. The average adult picks up one to three colds each season that typically last 3 or 4 days. If you get more, your resistance might be low. Getting more sleep, regular exercise and rounding out your diet to get lots of healthy veggies and these foods can help.

God Loves You Dearly…

“I have loved you,” says the LORD.
“But you ask, ‘How have you loved us?’ Malachi 1:2

People who have been hurt or broken by life tend to have a problem acknowledging that God is a God of LOVE. We must remember that the LOVE of God is boundless and infinite. It is an unconditional, limitless, eternal LOVE in comparison to our love that is a passing nature. God`s LOVE and Care for us is based on that which is good for us, not only now, but in the future as well.

The extent of God`s LOVE is so infinite that He is by your side in every situation of life. He waits to support and help you; to console you; to help you overcome stumbling blocks, and to be your Shepherd. Don`t you forget that!

Thank you, Heavenly Father, God of LOVE, that I will sit down one day at the feast of the Lamb, because I love You and You LOVE me. Thank You for all that You do. Amen.

Ever wondered what the oldest living things on earth might be?

Understanding One Another is a Gift...

How is it that we can go through life and never be truly understood? Could it be that maybe we don’t communicate well enough for people to truly get us? There was a time in my life when I felt no one got where I was coming from. They just didn’t seem to understand me or anything about me at all. Time has passed since I felt that no one understood me.

If I ask you how you are, and you say “fine” and say nothing more; you have told me nothing. You could be happy, sad, mad or anything in between, but you put on the mask that everything is okay and then I lack understanding. I call that being coy. I used to be coy with people. I never said what I felt, but now I do. I feel I owe it to you, and I owe it to myself to be honest in how I relate to you; however, it is my duty as a human being to be direct, while at the same time being compassionate. It is only then that we can have the gift of understanding.

Being understanding is a balancing act between being honest and being blunt. You can be direct with people without purposely setting out to hurt them. Sometimes the truth does hurt, and that can’t be helped, but I believe in my heart of hearts that with understanding comes prudence. We must be able to use good judgment when we deal with people.

Some folks are fragile. They have no protective armor to deflect what they perceive to be a lack of understanding. You must get to know a person to truly understand them, but in order to understand them, they have to communicate with you in an honest and direct way. In other words, you can’t beat around the bush and expect to be understood. Be direct. Be honest.
Being honest is part of being understood. Many of us have a propensity to exaggerate the problems we are going through, or do just the opposite and say everything is fine, when it isn’t. If we practice communicating directly, without beating around the bush we will all be better understood.

Humor of the day...

People here in Texas have trouble with all those "shalls" and "shall
nots" in the Ten Commandments.

Folks here just aren't used to talking in those terms.
So, some folks out in west Texas got together and translated the "King James" into
"King Ranch" language:

The Cowboy's Ten Commandments (posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Fairlie, Texas)

(1) Just one God.
(2) Honor yer Ma & Pa.
(3) No tellin' tales or gossipin'.
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'.
(5) Put nothin' before God.
(6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
(7) No killin.'
(8) Watch yer mouth.
(9) Don't take what ain't yers.
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff.

Now that's kinda plain an' simple, don't ya think?

Y'all have a good day.

Change Us, Day by Day…

"May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance."
2 Thessalonians 3:5

We cherish in our Hearts the eternal Truth that God`s Love is free and undeserved. Nothing that you or I have done or intend to do can earn Us that. God loves Us because God is love, and this is a great Truth for which I`m eternally grateful and for which I should glorify and thank Him day by day.

We are the object of God`s Love. God Himself lit the flame of Love for Him in our Hearts, so we must do all we can to ensure that nothing extinguishes this inner flame inside Us.

Father, truly You are Love! Your Son became man to demonstrate True Love (John 1:14)! Our Father, you called us and saved us in order to make us like your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Change us, day by day, by the work of your Holy Spirit so that we may grow more like him in all that we think and say and do, to his glory. Thank You for Grace-Filled Love… Amen.

Better Fitness May Keep Colds at Bay...

Immunological research has previously shown that regular exercise improves immune system function in a way that would suggest that people who are more fit would be more resistant to illness. Interestingly, until recently little evidence has been collected to prove that people who are more "fit" actually get sick less.

Researchers in North Carolina tracked the frequency of upper respiratory tract infections in over 1000 men and women over 1 year. At the end of the 12 month period, participants completed questionnaires that solicited information on lifestyle, exercise type and frequency, self-reported fitness level, nutrition, and stress.

The most active participants, those who exercised more than 5 times per week aerobically had 46% fewer colds than those at the opposite extreme who trained less than one time per week. Moreover, those who exercised the most had less severe symptoms and recovered from cold symptoms faster than the most sedentary group. Interestingly, the researchers discovered that older, married men had a lower frequency of colds compared to other groups.

Aerobic exercise has previously been shown to increase the activity of immune system cells that fend off viruses. This is a temporary effect that occurs following an acute bout of exercise. The immune system returns to normal function thereafter. This helps explain why greater frequency of exercise was the greatest contributor to preventing colds in the current study.

In an article by HealthDay News, it was written that annual healthcare costs associated with the common cold currently top $40 billion. Consequently, a little exercise could go a long way in improving health care costs in the US.

A Sweet Grandmother...

A sweet grandmother telephoned Mount Sinai Hospital.
She timidly asked, "Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a
patient is doing
The operator said "I'll be glad to help, Dear. What's the name and
room number?"

The grandmother in her weak tremulous voice said, "Holly Finkel in
room 302."

The Operator replied, "Let me check. Oh, good news. Her records say
that Holly is doing very well. Her blood pressure is fine; her blood
work just came back as normal and her physician, Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to
be discharged on Tuesday."?"

The Grandmother said, "Thank you. That's wonderful! I was so worried!
God bless you for the good news."

The operator replied, "You're more than welcome. Is Holly your daughter?"

The Grandmother said, "No, I'm Holly Finkel in 302.
Dr.Cohen doesn't tell me anything!"

Pecans protect your Brain & fights disease! So eat them…

Researchers suggest vitamin E – a natural antioxidant found in pecans – may provide a key element to neurological protection shown in the study. Antioxidants are nutrients found in foods that help protect against cell damage, and studies have shown, can help fight diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer and heart disease. Pecans are the most antioxidant-rich tree nut and are among the top 15 foods to contain the highest antioxidant capacity, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

“These findings suggest regular consumption of pecans may provide significant nutritive and antioxidant benefits for your body,” said lead researcher Thomas B. Shea, PhD.

Key Concepts
• A new study found pecans protect your brain from motor neuron degeneration.
• Vitamin E – a natural antioxidant found in pecans – may provide a key element to neurological protection.

Sufficient Grace…

“You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 2:1

Many people are not able to work through the problems they face and fear has a devastating effect on them. Are you one of them?

Jesus, my advocate invites me daily to bring my problems to Him so He can find rest for my soul. He invites you as well to bring your anxieties to Him because He cares for you, and He loves you! I know how feels like when everything seems like is not working right and things get so hard that we get tired and heavy-laden. In moments like that turning to God in Christ is the best way to go because He will enable you to handle your problems with courage and faith.

In moments like that receive your strength and confidence from Him because in all circumstances His grace will be sufficient for you as He says it in 2 Corinthians 12:9a so that you can deal with your problems in a new, assured manner.

Father, I ask for your strength to assist me in times of weakness, help me to know your grace that is sufficient for me. Thank you for everything that you are doing into my live. Thank you for your unconditional communication of love. Amen.

I Love It…

Individual Growth is Spiritual as well, not just Bones and Muscles…

We all grow naturally. Without much effort, we see bones develop from infant stages into adult hood, from soft pliable material to hard matter. We see muscles grow and we feel ourselves getting stronger with time. All of this occurs naturally, as we eat, work, and play. But what does it take for us to grow spiritually? Spiritual growth requires a conscious effort of introspection and analysis.

If we want to grow spiritually, we need to be by turning our thoughts in instead of out. Instead of focusing on what is around us, we need to examine our hearts.

Why do we do what we do?
Why do we hang out with the people that we hang out with?
What are our good traits and how did we attain them?
What are our bad traits, and how can we get rid of them?

Introspection teaches us to consider how we act and it motivates us to change how we behave on a daily and moment by moment basis. But introspection requires great courage. Many people never look inward because they fear that they won’t like what they see, and ultimately they don’t want to change what they see.

When you grow spiritually, you take hold of the potentials you’ve been given. You consider what you can do, and you grow even more by reaching beyond what you think you can do and thus developing more potential.

Finally, growing spiritually means understanding our connection with the world around us. Doing so will lead to a greater respect of the things and people around us. And whether we find that connection through faith or psychology, ultimately we grow spiritually because of that connection.

God`s blessings to you all.

My trainer has worked me so hard my pants don't fit...

What Causes Sciatica? Back pain...

The cause of sciatic pain is difficult to pinpoint. Depending on the cause and severity many patients go under the knife.

Pain Management and Sciatica
Sciatica is a common type of pain affecting the sciatic nerve, a large nerve extending from the lower back down the back of each leg.

What Are the Symptoms of Sciatica?

Common symptoms of sciatica include:
• Pain in the rear or leg that is worse when sitting
• Burning or tingling down the leg
• Weakness, numbness, or difficulty moving the leg or foot
• A constant pain on one side of the rear
• A shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up
Sciatica usually affects only one side of the lower body. Often, the pain extends from the lower back all the way through the back of the thigh and down through the leg. Depending on where the sciatic nerve is affected, the pain may also extend to the foot or toes.
For some people, the pain from sciatica can be severe and debilitating. For others, the pain from sciatica might be infrequent and irritating, but has the potential to get worse.
Seek immediate medical attention with any symptoms of progressive lower extremity weakness and/or loss of bladder or bowel control.

What Causes Sciatica?

Sciatica is caused by irritation of the root(s) of the lower lumbar and lumbosacral spine.

Additional common causes of sciatica include:
• Lumbar spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back)
• Degenerative disc disease (breakdown of discs, which act as cushions between the vertebrae)
• Spondylolisthesis (a condition in which one vertebra slips forward over another one)
• Pregnancy

Other things that may make your back pain worse include being overweight, not exercising regularly, weakness in the back muscles and abdominals, wearing high heels, or sleeping on a mattress that is too soft.

In Only 20 Minutes...

Bread toasts has always been one of my favorite breakfast foods. This recipe is especially good because the bread becomes perfectly crunchy around the edges and mildly toasty through the center, while the apple filling adds a soft and sweet accompaniment. Adding syrup makes this breakfast truly decadent.

I think I`m getting hungry... What about you?

Ingredients
Makes: 6 sandwiches
Start to finish: 13 minutes
Cook: 8 minutes
2 eggs
• 1/4 cup whole milk
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, McCormick®
• 4 slices raisin bread, Wonder®
• 1/2 cup prepared apple pie filling, Comstock®
• 1 tablespoon butter
• Additional butter
• Powdered sugar, C&H (optional)

Directions
1. In a large baking dish, whisk eggs, milk, and cinnamon. Set aside.
2. Make 2 sandwiches with the bread and apple pie filling. Place sandwiches into egg mixture. Let soak until egg mixture is completely absorbed into the bread, turning sandwiches over occasionally, about 3 minutes.
3. On a griddle over medium-low heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook sandwiches on the griddle until brown and heated through, about 4 minutes per side. Cut each sandwich in half.
4. Transfer to plates and serve with additional butter. Top with powdered sugar (optional).

An incredible piece of sound engineering work...

Below is an incredible piece of sound engineering work. It is a composite audio/video of song whereby additional tracks were laid in by different singers and musicians from different places around the world. The finished product is tremendous! The song itself is that classic standard "Stand By Me" originally released in 1955 by The Staple Singers and released again in 1961 by the Drifters. This composite version is a real toe tapper.

So turn up the speaker volume and enjoy it.

It really puts a great beat in my life to start the day. God bless you all.

Being Overweight Increases Knee Joint Degeneration...

Although being overweight or obese has been suspected to result in increased risk for arthritis especially at the knee, limited research exists that links weight to increased degenerative change. Until next month when, according to HealthDay News, a study will be published in the journal Radiology implicating excess body weight in the rapid progression of knee osteoarthritis.

Researchers tracked 336 overweight patients previously identified as “at risk” for osteoarthritis of the knee over 30 months. None had significant loss of knee cartilage at the outset of the study, however more than 20% presented with progressive loss of cartilage, while just under 6% were diagnosed with rapid loss of knee cartilage over the course of the study.

The researchers identified 5 factors that appear to have significantly increased risk of developing osteoarthritis, excess weight having the greatest association with rapid degeneration. Statistically, the researchers found that every increase of BMI by one factor increased the likelihood of cartilage loss by 11%.
The other four include cartilaginous tears (i.e. meniscus) or other pre-existing cartilage damage, severe lesions on MRI, inflammation and fluid collection in the knee.

Although exercise training may not completely prevent osteoarthritis it has been found to improve pain and slow progression. Weight loss, however, might be the primary mechanism by which fitness professionals can improve osteoarthritis risk and quality of life amongst people with the disease.

Praise to My Savior …

I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.
Psalm 86:12-13

When I realize the greatness of what God has done for me, I look for ways to exercise my love for Him. He has been so good and faithful to me. I should remind myself when I pray what a magnificent privilege it is to be able to draw close to my Heavenly Father in prayers.

I was in the deep mire of sin, but He raised me up so that I could stand in His holy presence. If you are like me out there do make sure that you do not just take this mercy for granted. This morning, I ask God to teach me to serve Him with my whole heart so that my life will be a song of praise to Him in Christ Jesus.

What about you?

Father, I praise and worship You because You saved me through Christ. Help me today to walk in Your ways and glorify You forever. Amen.

Over 35? Two Glasses of Water Before Meals Increases Weight Loss by 30%

Of all the diet and weight loss tricks this one may be the easiest and most practical. In a recent study presented at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society, researchers reported that middle-aged and older adults lost 30% more weight when simply drinking 2 cups of water before each meal.

Researchers split overweight and obese participants between the ages of 55 and 75 into two groups. Both groups were instructed to eat a low-calorie/low-fat diet for 12weeks, however, only one of the groups was told to drink 2 cups of water prior to each meal. By the end of the study the group that was told to drink water before meals lost nearly 16 lbs. compared to 11 lbs. for the diet only group.

Although this tip/trick is not new, it is based on previous research that showed a reduction in calories eaten during a meal in which you drank water first. This research did not, however, determine the direct benefits to weight loss, according to the article published by HealthDay News.

This is great news for those who are middle-age and older. Unfortunately, if you’re under 35 it won’t likely work for you. In an interview with the researchers, it was explained that because gastric emptying occurs at a slower pace as we age, drinking water will more likely keep you full longer the older you are.

In other recent research, encouraging water drinking has been shown to also replace the consumption of sugary beverages, which on average increase caloric intake by 300 kcals per day.

Judges Seat

We wanted to be on time. A man who comes late to a court hearing could be classified as a fool. The Judge has the gavel, and with the gavel comes the power. Others came with us. We were not the only convicts that day. If that was not true, there would be something dramatically wrong with the way that we as a society identify suspects.

We knew we were guilty. It was just a matter of learning what our punishment would be. The bailiff came in first, and said something like, “when the Judge comes in, everyone needs to stand. Turn off your cell phones now and no talking.” We did as we were told.

When the Judge entered, the bailiff said, “All rise!” We did. He immediately got down to business. He told us he would not let us plea “nolo contender.” Nolo contender means that you do not contest the charges, but you do not plead guilty to them. So we knew that we were boxed in. Guilty would be our plea.

One by one the convicts came forward, and one by one the Judge ruled. Some pleaded not guilty. He set a trial date for them. Some pleaded guilty. The fine was set, and they went off to pay the cashier.

Finally, our turn came. “How do you plead?”

“Guilty.”

There was something freeing about admitting it. We were guilty, and there was a fine to pay. We paid it.

As we left the court house, I reflected on guilt and payment. And yes, it came to my mind. We are all guilty of worse things than running a stop sign, and we cannot pay the fine. The Judge will not let us plead nolo contender and there will be a court date.

At PERIMETER, we want you to explore what that means. We don`t want you to think that we are all about punishment and crime. Just the opposite. We have advocate who pays the price for us by His Grace and unconditional Love.

So if you ran a red light, having some heavy burden, we may be the place for you. All of us stand guilty, and we know the Judge. He won`t give you time off for good behavior, but He will grant you pardon because of the One who behaved to perfection, and His name is Jesus! Courts in. All rise.

All the Earth Bows down to You

Psalm 66:3-4
The believer need not have any doubt that God answers prayers! And when He does, we should sing His praises and thank Him for His faithfulness.

Today’s psalm was written after Israel had won a war under difficult circumstances. The Israelites wanted to testify to each other, to the world, and to God Himself, how great and mighty He is – so that everyone would bow before Him.

To be on God’s side is the greatest privilege on earth. Let us thank God with our whole heart because we know He hears our prayers and will always cause us to triumph over all enemies that we are facing on a daily basis.

Here I am bowing in thankfulness before You Heavenly Father. Thank you for everything You have done for me! Amen.

Lack of Sleep Leads to Fat Gain

The effects of sleep deprivation are slowly gaining attention amongst fitness and wellness professionals. Getting adequate sleep quantity and quality is not only essential to optimizing mental and physical recuperation, it may be essential to preventing obesity.

In a recent study published in the journal Sleep, researchers from Wake Forest University reported that getting less than 5 hours of sleep or more than 8 hours leads to increased intra-abdominal fat when compared to those who sleep for 6 or 7 hours.

More than 1,000 African- and Hispanic-Americans were interviewed to obtain information on sleep habits, nutrition, physical activity and lifestyle. They also participated in a CT scan, which was used to assess both visceral and subcutaneous abdominal fat. Baseline measurements were then compared to a re-assessment at 5 years.

Participants who slept less than 5 hours a night experienced a 32% increase in deep abdominal fat over 5 years, while those with averaged more than 8 hours of sleep increased by 22%. Subcutaneous abdominal fat increased similarly.

After factoring in lifestyle factors such as total calorie intake, education levels, physical activity and smoking, sleep duration persisted as an independent risk factor for increased abdominal adiposity, especially in participants under 40.

Researchers offer broad speculation to explain the cause and effect relationship of sleep to fat gain. The primary explanations involved increased daytime fatigue, which limits energy to participate in physical activity. In addition, some believe in the potential for sleep deprivation to inhibit appetite-suppressing hormones, thus leading to overeating.

Although this study replicates previous finding on sleep and abdominal fat, it is the first to assess this factor in minority populations.

The Truth About Investments...

What's the best way to reach your investment goals?

Myth: I don’t need an investment advisor. I’ll save money and my investments will do just as well if I use online brokerage services.
Truth: Always trust the important stuff to the pros. Professionals have years of training and experience, and it is their full-time job to manage your investments.

We’ve all seen the clever online brokerage ads offering free trades, “supercharged” services, and even investment apps for your phone. These companies have made do-it-yourself investing easier and cheaper, so the question isn’t can you do it, but should you?

Cheap Isn’t Always Better
Most online brokers lure you in with 100 free trades and fees that are less than $10. It’s easy to think you’ll save on commissions or other fees you’d pay a pro to do the same job. But, because online brokers make it so easy to buy and sell, the do-it-yourselfer ends up trying to time the market—and losing money along the way.

Based on the history of the S&P 500, a benchmark for stock market performance, investments held for 30 years average 12% annual growth. Timing the market can reduce returns by more than 7%.

Investors who use an advisor simply don’t buy and sell as often, which makes it more likely for them to reach their investment goals because they aren’t trying to time the market.

Advice Option?
Take a look at some popular brokerage sites, and you’ll probably find an option offering professional advice. Even the folks promoting do-it-yourself investing know you’ll need some advice somewhere along the way!

So why not start things off under some professional guidance? An investment advisor will help you nail down your investment goals, identify problems and opportunities, understand future tax implications of your investments, and stay on top of new products and rules.

And, when difficult times come, like the 2007–2008 market downturn, your advisor will be there to stop you from selling in a panic, keeping you on track.

How Do I Find A Good Investment Advisor?
A good investment advisor will have experience, expertise and the heart of a teacher. Dave Ramsey, whose common-sense principles have taught more than one million families how to live debt free and build wealth, has developed a network of professional investment advisors called Endorsed Local Providers (ELP). ELPs don’t work for Dave, but they base their investment advice on his teaching and can help you get started the right way. Connect with one in your town.

Quick Weight Loss = Lasting Weight Loss?

For overweight and obese individuals losing weight can have a profound impact on both quality and quantity of life. Once that fact is internalized most people can't take the weight off fast enough. Weight loss experts, however, will commonly advise a more gradual approach that creates a loss of 1 to 3 pounds per week, depending on baseline weight. This philosophy is based on previous research and experience that suggests using more practical and sustainable solutions that are also less likely to negatively affect hormones or metabolism.

Unfortunately, popular diets and media are creating higher expectations for overweight Americans that differ from this recommendation. These expectations are creating a challenge for weight loss professionals, for if the expectations for fast weight loss are not met motivation could be lost and dropout is likely. So, the question remains... what is the optimal rate of weight loss that promotes better health quickly and is sustainable? A recent study may be set to challenge professional beliefs after finding that faster weight loss might actually be more productive.

Researchers from the University of Florida evaluated the effects of varying amounts of caloric restriction on total weight loss over 6 months and maintenance of weight lost for 1 year thereafter. More than 250 obese middle-aged women were encouraged to consume a diet designed to facilitate either a 1/2 pound, 1/2 to 1 1/2 pound, or a 1 1/2 pound weekly weight loss. After 6 months, the groups had lost on average nearly 11 pounds, 20 pounds, and 30 pounds, respectively. Follow-up was completed 1 year after the initial 6-month weight loss period. Interestingly, all groups gained back approximately the same amount of weight over the course of the follow-up year.
In this study, it appears to have been more valuable to have lost a greater amount of total weight quickly instead of attempting to lose weight more gradually. It is important to realize, however, that popular media is leading people to believe that 5to 7 pounds of weekly weight loss is desirable. Although this study indicates that there might be a benefit to faster weight loss researchers remained within the advisable range for rate of weight loss.

A Save Haven…

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2

We all seek shelter at one time or another. It may be in the security of your home, or a shelter against the wind and rain.
Our spiritual and intellectual facilities are also often ravaged by the storms of life. We all need a safe and secure Haven where we can find shelter from these storms and be protected from devastating emotional consequences. Even when it seems as if everything is lost, entrust yourself to the love of Jesus Christ. However dark the road ahead may seem, Christ, in His love, is your shelter and safe Haven.

Thank you, my God, that I find shelter in You and that I will be safe now and for all eternity. Amen.

Physical Exercise...

It`s any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health or wellness. It is performed for various reasons. These include strengthening muscles and the cardiovascular system, honing athletic skills, weight loss or maintenance and for enjoyment. Frequent and regular physical exercise boosts the immune system, and helps prevent the "diseases of affluence" such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and obesity. It also improves mental health, helps prevent depression, helps to promote or maintain positive self-esteem, and can even augment an individual's sex appeal or body image, which again is also linked with higher levels of self-esteem. Childhood obesity is a growing global concern and physical exercise may help decrease the effects of childhood obesity in developed countries.

Network Marketing A Growth Industry In Challenging Times!

In spite of cynicism from naysayers, the network marketing industry has boomed over the past two decades, and offers some attractive benefits for those thinking of starting their first small business. It involves little start-up cost, can be incorporated as a part-time or full-time career, and is open to all races, ages and backgrounds.

The Facts:

■ More than 13.6 million people in the U.S.A participated in network marketing in 2004, and more than 54 million around the globe. The number of people involved in direct marketing has more than doubled in the past ten years; whereas retail numbers have been steady decline over the past decade.

■ As an industry, network marketing is experiencing rapid growth, with 2004 sales in the U.S. close to $30 Billion and topping $99 Billion worldwide.

■ More than 74 percent of Americans have purchased something through direct person-to-person selling.

■ The direct marketing industry is not affected by the same race, gender and age biases often found in corporate America. Close to 80 percent of individuals are female, and more than 75 percent are over the age of 34. This diversity also includes a variety of educational backgrounds – from high school to postgraduate level training.

■ More than 85 percent of people involved in the industry work fewer than 30 hours a week.

I encourage you to join us and learn how to become your own boss by starting a part-time or full-time home-based network marketing business that offers several benefits not often available to those who have regular jobs. In fact, small businesses make up the backbone of America and may be the best way for most of us to achieve the American dream.

By joining us you will learn some of the reasons to leave the rat race and take control of the time, the money, the career that is given to you by God and make them work for you and the ones you love. Thank you and welcome on board.

Sincerely to Your Success,
Louk Damianov & USA Business Owners

I Am with You says the Lord!

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:2

It requires great faith ad a strong character to be able to work through adversity and disappointment. Many seemingly strong people eventually collapse under their burdens. The Lord never promised that our lives would be trouble-free just because we choose to serve Him. But He did promise to be therefore us at all times, and help us over life’s hurdles. Knowing that you don’t have to tackle the afflictions of life on your own is a comforting and reassuring thought.
When problems mar your view and place pressure on you, turn to Christ. He is your heavenly Companion. Overcome your problems in the peace of His presence.

Thank You, omnipotent Father, that I can say with confidence that You are with me day by day. Amen.

The Reassuring Love of God

"I love the Lord, for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy." Psalm 116:1

There comes a time in each of our lives when we urgently need reassurance for peace of mind and to calm our spirit.
Regardless of how self-assured you may be, there will come a time in your life when you will recognize that you have such need. But what if there is no one to assist you in your crucial time? What are you supposed to do then?
The answer lies in today’s Scripture verse. God is always there as a refuge and help in time of need. He is always hears when you need Him, He always hears when you call to Him from the depths (Psalm 50:15) and you can be assured that He will answer your prayers.

O Lord, my God, I love You with all my heart and know that all things happen for my good because You love me. Thank you for your Grace. Amen.

Fat Gain May Cause Brain Shrinkage

If you needed another reason to lose weight, scientists have just uncovered something that might be of interest. Researchers at UCLA recently reported that body fat may be inversely related to brain size.

According to a Healthday interview with lead scientist Paul Thompson, being overweight or obese ages the brain by 8 to 16 years, respectively. Moreover, the areas of the brain most affected by excess body fat are the frontal and temporal lobes. The frontal lobe is responsible for everything from problem solving ability to memory, impulse control and social behaviors whereas the temporal lobe coordinates both visual and auditory information. Increased degeneration of these areas has been suggested to lead to Alzheimer's disease.

To make the above determinations brain images from 94 elderly adults were studied. The individuals were then followed for five years. The brains of obese participants were 8% smaller than those of normal-weight participants, whereas overweight participants had 4% less brain tissue.

Although a cause-and-effect relationship could not be determined from this study, the researchers suggest that it could be a result of poor nutrient delivery to the brain in obese individuals. If this is the case, exercise, which increases nutrient delivery throughout the body, might play an important role in preventing the loss of brain tissue in overweight and obese.

The BAR

As the years go by, it seems to get higher. I am talking about the bar. When I was a kid, getting onto the soccer team of my village back in Bulgaria or in the Judo team of the city I had to go to attend and graduate High School at that time was not a matter of just showing up, but it was not as difficult as it is today. “Start ‘em a young and keep ‘em focused” seems to be the way to have a chance these days. There is a lot of competition. Try getting into the college of your choice. It used to be very easy to get into it. Now students with high GPAs and SAT scores are turned down routinely. How about a job? Well, we all know that it is harder to get a good one.

The bottom line is that all of us are running harder and faster to keep up, get ahead or not fall behind. It takes a super human effort to rise above the BAR. How about our Christian walk, or is it a run? It is hard to keep up with all of the Christians around you; isn`t it? After all, “they”set the BAR high; don`t they? Know the Bible, act right, serve, give, don`t talk about others, reach out to the poor, raise your kids well and show up to Church are some of the bricks in the wall you need to leap over each week. Whew, I am tired just writing about it.

So my question is how are you doing? Are you tired and frustrated? Are you despondent and about to give up? Will you just quit trying? Well, if that is you, I have some good news. It comes in two forms. The first is there is no BAR. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28 the following: “Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” The only BAR I know of in Christianity is the horizontal one that was nailed to the vertical one on Calvary. The Heavenly Father set that bar high, and Jesus met the standard. The second one is you can leap over a wall with your God. Whatever obstacles that is facing you right now is not too big for God. He is with you and will uphold you. That is his promise. Here is the key though; you have to quit looking at the wall, the BAR or other people. You have to look to Him. As you do, He will make a way when seems that there is no way and that way will be delightful, not because it will be easy, but because it will be with Him, by Him and for Him.

Worship Him well this coming week and always. God bless you!

Eat It to Beat It

We all know that tension can wreak havoc on our eating patterns. But the right (healthy!) foods can often help tame mindless munching and cravings and, better yet, actually lower overall anxiety and its symptoms. Here are eight of our favorites:

#1 Dark Chocolate
High in flavonoids, which are lauded for their relaxing properties (chamomile tea is another great source), chocolate also contains phenethylamine, a chemical that enhances your mood. The darker the chocolate, the more healthy substances you're getting in your diet, so look for bars that are 70 percent cacao or higher.

#2 Skim Milk
Turns out that a glass of warm milk really is calming. One study found that women who drank four or more servings of lowfat or skim milk every day were about half as likely to experience stress-related PMS symptoms than those who drank less than one serving a week.

#3 Oatmeal
Carbs help you produce serotonin, a calming hormone that helps fight anxiety's negative effects-which is probably why many of us crave them when we're stressed. Go with the craving and choose healthy sources. Oatmeal is high in fiber, which means that your body will absorb it slowly.
